Philosophy and mission statement
I have come to love midwifery care for many reasons but the one that has surprised me most is for the love of relationships. I was asked recently, "what is the best service you offer as a midwife?" It's hands down the relationship with the client. The word "midwife" literally means 'with woman' and I believe that is the best thing I do, I am with you, through it all. I believe it is absolutely essential to
show up consistently, to be vulnerable, to hold boundaries and to love people. It is my goal to do this in all of life, but especially as a midwife.
I love my clients dearly, and I strive to provide them with the absolute best care possible.
I'm passionate about providing true informed choice at every decision point that comes up in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I like to think of it as "shared decision making, and it is my honor to provide clients with the information they need, to make the overall best decisions for themselves and their babies.
Meet the Midwife
Beth is originally from Anchorage, AK but has lived in Oregon for the last 19 years, with a brief two year stint in Juneau, AK. Her heart has settled in SE Portland with her husband and three children.
Spending much of her childhood and young adult life exploring the woods and outdoors around her, she developed a deep love and sense of awe for the magic of new life.
She witnessed her first live birth (her best friend’s pony) at 9 years old and was fascinated by the birth process. It's one of her favorite memories, recalling how she thought "This is so cool! And so gross!" After that, deep down she always knew she would end up doing something with mothers and babies.
When she became pregnant with her first child in 2010, she chose midwifery care. Just after they were born, she had an “aha!” moment. She realized that she was going to become a midwife along side raising her children.
She started classes at Portland Community College in 2013 and was later accepted into the midwifery program at Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2015. She graduated from Birthingway in May of 2020 with Bachelor’s of Science in Midwifery.
Beth has worked with a variety of midwives, including CPM’s, CNM’s and Naturopaths. She has held midwifery licenses in OR, WA and AK (the entire Pacific North West at one point) and has worked as a primary midwife for several homebirth practices in OR and WA, and the Juneau Family Birth Center in Juneau, AK. She has also worked as an assistant midwife for the Bridge Birth Center in Vancouver and Andaluz Birth Center in Portland and with several home birth practices in Portland and surrounding areas, and in SW WA. She currently holds an active license in Oregon and is an OHP provider and will soon have active status on her WA license as well.
As of July of 2026, Beth has attended 200 births. She is a member of the Oregon Midwifery Council and a Board member of the Oregon State Board of Direct-entry Midwifery.
Personal birth experience
She has 3 children. The older two were born at Andaluz birth center in Portland in 2011 and 2012, and the youngest was born at home 2014.
